Christmas Trees Can Cause Water Damage to Your Cranberry, PA Home

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Your home is beautifully decorated, the lights are twinkling, the stockings are hung with care, and you carefully selected a beautiful Christmas tree as the centerpiece of it all. While live Christmas trees are festive and beautiful, they can cause damage to your home if they aren’t properly cared for.
Christmas trees, if not watered well, are a fire hazard. To prevent fires this season, make sure to fill up the base of the tree stand with water and check it daily to make sure it doesn’t try out. Also, watch for signs of drying, like needles falling off, or the tree changing color to a light brown. Finally, be cautious not to place the tree near any potential ignition sources, such as poor wiring, faulty lights, or a heat source such as an open flame or space heater.
Christmas trees can also cause water damage to carpet or hardwood flooring. It takes very little water to cause water damage, and even less to allow mold to grow. Often, people place a tree skirt over the water pan of their tree. If it seems that you are continually filling up the pan, it’s likely there is a leak. If you think there may be a leak, look under the tree/tree skirt for signs of damage.
